The word Nostos means the return to one's homeland, repatriation.
It comes from the verb 'neomai,' meaning 'to return,'
'to go back to my homeland.'
From the word nostos comes the word νόστιμος/nostimos (delicious), but also the word νοσταλγία/nostalgia, which means the mental pain (algos) caused by the anticipation, the longing for the return to the homeland.

And at some point, the blessed day of return comes, the 'nostimon hemar' (day of return).
In the Odyssey, Odysseus even renounces immortality for the sake of his nostos.

The journey of Nostos
Nostos Hellenic Academy was born from the lifelong love and dedicated vision of Maria Kyriakantonaki-Bakola for the Greek language and culture. Drawing upon her deep Cretan roots and extensive experience in the Boston area, including her impactful leadership at Saint Nectarios Greek School in Roslindale, Maria envisioned a learning environment that transcends geographical boundaries through engaging online education.
